Dr. Rutt started out in the healthcare industry as a Physician’s Assistant. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from King’s College and then worked as a PA with various surgical specialties. As she engaged with her coursework, she fell in love with the ears, nose, and throat specialization. As she considered a shift in her medical career, she worked closely with her terrific Laryngologist mentor, Dr. Robert Sataloff, who guided her well throughout her career. Upon the encouragement of her mentor, Dr. Rutt directed her interests and mental powers towards the pursuit of a terminal professional medical degree. She earned a Doctoral degree in Osteopathic Medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2008. Dr. Rutt was determined to gain sufficient academic training for the responsibility of medical caregiving. She completed an Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Residency at Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital, Detroit Medical Center and subsequently, a Laryngology fellowship at Hahnemann University Hospital, Drexel University.

Dr. Rutt has filled her present role as Otolaryngology/Laryngeal Surgeon at the esteemed Mayo Clinic for the past three years. In this diagnostician capacity, Dr. Rutt is an ENT specialist, treating patients with upper airway and swallowing disorders. In addition to her clinical role, Dr. Rutt is the editor for two medical ENT Journals, Journal of the Voice and The ENT Journal. She takes personal pride in these appointments, deriving a new fulfillment from these editorial positions.

Dr. Rutt maintains relationships with her peers through associations with the American Osteopathic Association, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Laryngological Association. Dr. Rutt is especially honored to be a Board Member of the Florida Society of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery.

Dr. Rutt attributes her incredible healthcare journey and present success to networking with other professionals, her participation in research, and keeping an open mind. Her interests in laryngology and voice disorders shape her research curiosity and future directions. She also enjoys the challenge of keeping up-to-date on new healthcare trends and uses this knowledge to provide improved patient care. In the future, Dr. Rutt will continue in this vein by keeping informed and up-to-date in specialty medicine and conducting more clinical research. Within the next five years, Dr. Rutt envisions increased involvement with various work at Mayo and continued growth at the practice. In her free time, Dr. Rutt enjoys paddle boarding and spending time with her three dogs.  The American Health Council is proud to acknowledge the dynamic contributions Dr. Rutt has made to the changing landscape of her medical subspecialty and welcomes her talents to its network of diverse healthcare professionals.
