The American Health Council has welcomed Carol Head, RN, MSN as ” Best in Medicine” in recognition of her extensive experience of over forty years in the field of Maternal/Child Nursing. Ms. Head is currently on hiatus after completing a role as Interim Director of Maternal Child Services at Sutter Tracy, to do some home renovations.
Carol Head began her profession as a staff nurse in Labor and Delivery during her first tour in the Middle East at King Faisel Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (KFSH&RC) and progressed to leadership roles. She received her Master’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Phoenix. Throughout the course of her career, Carol has used her experience and leadership abilities to improve the quality and proficiency of women’s healthcare. This inspired her to lead a renowned initiative to improve nursing professionalism. Her dedication to this objective resulted in over half of nursing staff receiving an OB certification and each staff member achieving a fetal monitoring certification. Carol also dramatically improved healthcare departments by encouraging cross-training throughout units which simultaneously reduced the requirement for agency nurses. She took this even further still by focusing her attention on reducing OB anesthesia waiting times and collaborating with the anesthesia department to bring waiting times down and improve patient satisfaction by 20%.
As well as being a full-time businesswoman, Carol is still dedicated to the healthcare sector and allocates time in her busy schedule to supporting women’s health-related charities – particularly those associated with breast-cancer awareness. She is also a member of National Association of Professional Women, Association of Women’s Health AWHONN and Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing. In addition, Carol serves as The Village P.R.O.J.E.C.T.S. liaison for medical volunteer placement through Becky’s Foundation, an NGO in Senya Beraku, Ghana, more information regarding the organization can be found at beckysfoundation.org.
