Dr. Colette Susan Haywood is honored by the American Health Council as “Best in Medicine.” Dr. Haywood is a valued Director of Adult Medicine and Staff Physician with 30 years experience within the healthcare industry.

Having always been interested in the healthcare industry, prior to medical school, Dr. Haywood was a nurse and a midwife. It was through these roles that she realized her passion to take her career further and made the decision to resume her medical studies. She subsequently embarked on her MD degree at St. George’s University School of Medicine, Grenada, graduating in 2008. Following this, she secured her Residency in Family Medicine at the JFK Medical Center, in New Jersey.

Fulfilling her role as Director of Adult Medicine and Staff Physician at Family Health Centers of Southwest Florida, Dr. Haywood’s responsibilities include managing quality, administration, compliance, and updating clinical guidelines. Family Health Centers of Southwest Florida, Inc. is a multi-specialty health care practice. From their 21 medical and 8 dental offices, they provide medical, including pediatric and OB/GYN, dental, and social services to Lee and Charlotte Counties, as well as the western portion of Hendry County. Medical treatment is provided at each location by their Family Practice, OB/GYN, Internal Medicine, Pediatric physicians and Dentists who are experienced in caring for every member of the family, regardless of the patient’s age or gender.

Throughout her illustrious career, Dr. Haywood has had a vast number of accomplishments. She is especially honored to have been presented with the Degree of Fellow by the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Physician’s Recognition Award on Continuing Medical Education by the American Medical Association, and the Firestarter Award by Family Health Centers of Southwest Florida. Furthermore, she is a valued member of several prominent associations including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the Florida Academy of Family Physicians.

In addition to her professional work, Dr. Haywood donates to a variety of charitable organizations including Golisano Children’s Hospital, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and the American Cancer Society.

Over the last nine years, Dr. Haywood has had an incredibly fruitful career and she attributes this success to the tremendous amount of support she receives from her family, in addition to having outstanding mentors and teachers.

When not busy working, Dr. Haywood enjoys traveling and loves learning about other cultures.
