Colin Rigney

DPT

The American Health Council has warmly welcomed Dr. Colin Rigney as “Best in Medicine.” With over 9 years of experience working within the healthcare industry, Dr. Rigney has been recognized for his achievements as a Physical Therapist, where he specializes in the Musculoskeletal field.

Dr. Rigney became involved in his profession after following in the footsteps of his father, who has been his inspiration for pursuing a life in the healthcare field as a Physician. His father also spent time in the Army and he instilled their rigorous values upon the young doctor. Dr. Rigney has developed a love for all aspects of healthcare and in particular, the art of diagnosis.

Focusing his studies in this area, Dr. Rigney attained his Doctor of Physical Therapy from the A.T. Still University of Health Sciences, graduating in 2010. Dr. Rigney also trained to become an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist.

Having spent only one year in his current role of Physical Therapist/Musculoskeletal Sonographer at Physicians United, Dr. Rigney already displays expertise in the areas of orthopedics and musculoskeletal ultrasound. A typical day for Dr. Rigney includes performing diagnostic studies, assisting Tenex Procedures and practicing non-surgical sports medicine. He also evaluates patients who are referred to him for consultations on specific body parts.
Dr. Rigney assists with orthopedic procedures and minor procedures such as ultrasound-guided joint injections, percutaneous tenotomy-lavage, and joint aspiration. In addition to said duties, he also performs biomechanical assessments as a physical therapist, instructs patients in self-care/management techniques, performs manual therapeutic techniques (if indicated) as well as providing education to the patient with regard to etiology/prognosis of the current condition.

Physicians United is a physicians network providing support to physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners in the Greater Phoenix area in a variety of clinic settings (Orthopedic Surgeons, Non-Surgical Sports Medicine, and Family Practitioners) in the performance of diagnostic ultrasound assessment for musculoskeletal conditions.

Dr. Rigney believes that his success is due to being in the right place at the right time and the great opportunity of having a strong network of mentors surrounding him. He remains proud of his achievements, including becoming Board Certified in Orthopedics in 2013 and as a Registrant in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (RMSK) through the Alliance for Physician Certification and Advancement (APCA).

Looking to the future, Dr. Rigney aims to move into a leadership role in his field. He also plans to attend radiology courses enabling him to work more closely with radiologists.
In his time outside of work, Dr. Rigney has an involvement with Olympic Weightlifting as a grassroots level coach.
