Patricia Coon

The American Health Council warmly welcomes Dr. Patricia Coon as “Best in Medicine.” Working in the healthcare sector for 31 years, Dr. Coon is an expert in Geriatric Medicine, Researching Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia and continues to share her knowledge with the industry.

Dr. Coon completed her undergraduate degree from Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin then went on to gain her MD, in Internal Medicine in 1980 from the University of Maryland. Afterwards, she wanted to continue to educate herself so completed an Internship in 1981 and Residency in 1983 from Baltimore City Hospital. Dr. Coon also went on to gain her Fellowship from John Hopkins School of Medicine. After education, Dr. Coon went straight into work to secure experience and expand her understanding.

Dr. Coon became involved in her current profession after discovering a love for the geriatric patient population and then started home visits during medical school.
Having worked in her current position for 24 years at Billings Clinic as a Physician, Dr. Coon attributes her success to hard work, dedication and an extremely supportive leadership.

Billings Clinic is Montana’s largest health care organization and serves an immense region covering much of Montana, northern Wyoming and the western Dakotas. It offer services in Primary Healthcare, Geriatrics, Internal Medicine and Assisted Living. Billings Clinic is a physician-led, integrated multi-specialty group practice with a Level II trauma center. It is a 304-bed hospital and a 90-bed skilled nursing and assisted living facility. Billings Clinic staff are devoted to providing the best clinical quality, patient safety, service and value. On a day to day basis, Dr. Coon’s responsibilities include duties of working in a small, clinical office practice and being an active medical director of a nursing home, assisted living and a home care facility. As a respected Physician, Dr. Coon gets appraisal from patients families regularly and receives a substantial number of letters from them. Dr. Coon is extremely proud of this and regards it as a professional accomplishment.

To further her knowledge and understanding, Dr. Coon is a member of a number of professional associations including the American Association of Internal Medicine, Alzheimer’s Association, American Geriatrics Society, American Diabetes Association and the American Medical Directors Association.

Over the next 5 years, Dr. Coon has set professional goals. She is planning to retire from clinical work within the next 19 months and focus more on research and patient advocacy.

In her spare time, Dr. Coon enjoys travelling, playing the guitar and listening to classical and folk music.
