Dr. Richard Hughes, expert physician and Cardiothoracic Anesthesiologist, has been appointed as “Best in Medicine” of the American Health Council. Dr. Hughes has worked in the healthcare industry for over 9 years including his residency training. 4 and a half of these years have been spent working in his current role at Anesthesia Practice Consultants P.C.
Dr. Hughes grew up surrounded by the healthcare industry as his father was a Cardiothoracic Surgeon. This inspired Dr. Hughes to follow in similar footsteps. In addition, he has a keen interest in pharmacology and physiology. Therefore, Dr. Hughes studied for his MD at Creighton University School of Medicine, from which he graduated in 2007. This qualification has been supplemented by his internship, which he completed at the University of Colorado in 2008. Similarly, Dr. Hughes also completed a residency in 2011 at Baylor College of Medicine and a fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Foundation, which he completed in 2012. Throughout his education, Dr. Hughes specialized in Anesthesiology and Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology, a niche field in which Dr. Hughes is an expert. He is Board Certified in Anesthesiology and Transesophageal Echocardiography which is a testament to his vast experience in this field.
Dr. Hughes is an integral part of Anesthesia Practice Consultants (APC) P.C. Anesthesia Practice Consultants, PC predominantly serves the West Michigan area as it is located in Grand Rapids. APC are committed to providing the best care possible for all who visit the hospitals and practices. This is achieved by bringing together experts in the medical profession and effective support staff so that all patients are cared for effectively. The dedicated consultants and clinicians of APC also have a global reach and assist people abroad who require help and humanitarian aid. This is achieved through supporting organizations such as Christian Medical, but also through their own, unique organization called Medical Missions of Michigan, which provides aid those in need but also assists those wanting to become involved with service work. The specialties of APC include Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology, Obstetric Anesthesia and General Anesthesia. For Dr. Hughes, his daily duties include being directly involved in the necessary anesthesia support for coronary, heart and lung transplants. This is in addition to the perioperative pain management services he handles in both Butterworth Hospital, Grand Rapids and in Blodgett Hospital in East Grand Rapids. Dr. Hughes dedicates his success to the guidance he was provided with by expert mentors and teachers.
Dr. Hughes is also extremely proud to share his knowledge with and guide future medical professionals. To further his own expertise, he is a member of the Michigan Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists.
Dr. Hughes is also very honored and thankful for his family; his wife, Emily, and his three daughters. In his spare time, Dr. Hughes loves to read, play golf, and also enjoys coin collecting. He is also an active supporter of the American Cancer Society.
Over the next five years, Dr. Hughes wants to continue deepening his knowledge of this specialist field whilst maintaining the highest levels of care.
