The American Health Council has warmly welcomed Dr. Jan Frederik Stevens as “Best in Medicine.” Having amassed over 28 years of service to his profession, Dr. Stevens is a highly respected Professor and an expert in Phytochemistry and Dietary Supplements.
Dr. Stevens first became involved in the healthcare sector due to his keen interest in the development of new drugs. His academic endeavours began at the University of Groningen, where between 1988 to 1995, he completed his M.Sc, his Pharmacy License and his Ph.D. From 1999-2002. Dr. Stevens then embarked on several positions as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Oregon State University, the Free University of Amsterdam and the Leibniz Institute of Plant Biochemistry in Germany
Currently, Dr. Stevens upholds the prestigious position of Professor at Oregon State University, a role he has served in for over 14 years. With key expertise in Biology, Pharmaceutical and Pharmacy, Dr. Stevens’ day to day responsibilities include; conducting research, test trials of dietary supplements, teaching duties in the College of Pharmacy, writing grants.

Over the course of his impressive career, Dr. Stevens has developed extensive experience in the areas of Healthcare Education, Workforce Development, Leadership, Management and Chemistry. His knowledge is in high demand and has led to numerous speaking engagements including as Keynote Speaker at the 2nd International Conference on Pharmacognosy, Phytochemistry and Natural Products in Beijing, China, as an Invited Speaker at the 7th International Conference on Polyphenols and Health (ICPH 2015) in Tours, France, as an Invited Speaker at the 8th World Congress on Polyphenols Applications in Lisbon, Portugal and as a Keynote Speaker for the 3rd and 6th International Symposium on Vitamin C in Seoul, Korea.
The esteemed doctor has also been recognized for his contributions to academia, having served as a Guest Professor for a course on medicinal natural products at the University of Antwerp, Belgium. He is also the recipient of five Teacher of the Year Awards, from the Oregon State College of Pharmacy.
Keen to remain at the forefront of his profession, Dr. Sevens is an active member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Association of the Netherlands, the American Society of Mass Spectrometry, the Phytochemical Society of North America, the American Society of Pharmacognosy, the American Heart Association and the American Chemical Society.
Among his many achievements, Dr. Stevens is most proud to be a member of the advisory board and Phytochemical Society of North America. Further accolades include his Ph.D. Cum Laude, the F.H.L Van Os Award by the Society for Medicinal Plant Research (The Netherlands) and the Beginning Grant-in-Aid Award by the American Heart Association.
Attributing much of his success to hard work and persistence, Dr, Stevens’ professional goals for the next 5 years include continuing the growth of the research lab. When not busy working, Dr. Stevens enjoys swimming during his free time. He is also extremely charitable, lending his support and expertise to the American Heart Association, the Phytochemical Society of North America, the American Society for Mass Spectrometry and the American Chemical Society.
