The American Health Council has cordially invited Dr. John DeFord Ph.D as “Best in Medicine.” over 25 years of experience within the healthcare industry, Dr. DeFord has been recognized in his role as Senior Vice President, Science, Technology, & Clinical Affairs.

Dr. DeFord began his academic endeavours at Purdue University where over the course of 10 years he attained his BS, MS and Ph.D qualifications, graduating in 1990. It was also his time in education and his experiences that lead Dr. DeFord to first became involved in his profession; while working academically at Purdue he had the opportunity to participate in research. He found this type of work to be very exciting and this inspired him to get involved in venture capital and the manufacturing of medical devices.

In his current capacity, Dr. DeFord has fulfils the role of Senior Vice President, Science, Technology, & Clinical Affairs at C.R. Bard, Inc. Displaying expertise in Clinical Trials, Algorithms and Medical Technology. His daily responsibilities include the oversight of research and development including 100 clinical trials, the management of 800 employees, covering both implantable and disposable devices.

Bard, Inc. is a leading multinational developer, manufacturer, and marketer of innovative, life-enhancing medical technologies in the fields of Vascular, Urology, Oncology, and Surgical Specialties. Bard markets its products and services worldwide to hospitals, individual health care professionals, extended care facilities, and alternate site facilities. Attributing his success to his strong work ethic, Dr. DeFord also acknowledges the great mentors he has been privileged to work with, in addition to receiving some good breaks during his career. With a continuing emphasis on broadening his knowledge, Dr. DeFord maintains membership with the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.

Among his many accomplishments, Dr. DeFord is most proud to help patients and clinicians with products, and mentoring others in the field. Dr. DeFord is honored to have been a former CEO of a privately held medical device company and is grateful to have been given the opportunity to help develop I9 Patents.

Looking to the future, Dr. DeFord aspires to work towards the creation of another big idea and to continue making an impact within the healthcare field.
