The American Health Council has warmly welcomed Dr. M. Scott Lucia, MD, as “Best in Medicine” in recognition of his expertise in the specialist field of Anatomic Pathology.
Dr. Lucia first became involved in his profession due to his ongoing desire to be a world changer in healthcare. Early in his academic endeavours, Dr. Lucia focused his studies in medicine by enrolling at the University of Colorado, School of Medicine in 1988 where he attained his MD. Further experience was gained during his Internship at the University of Colorado Denver in 1989 and his subsequent Residency position in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology from 1990-1993. He became board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology in 1993. After completing a research fellowship at the National Cancer Institute in 1995, he joined the faculty at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in the Department of Pathology.
In his current capacity, Dr. Lucia has upheld the roles of Professor and Vice Chair of Anatomic Pathology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus for the past 9 years. Displaying expertise in Surgical Pathology with subspecialty expertise in genitourinary (GU) and renal pathology, Cancer Biology, and Biomedical Science, daily responsibilities involve an array of clinical practice in surgical pathology, teaching duties, conducting clinical trials in GU and Renal Pathology, whilst also dedicating time working on publications and research.

Over the course of his 24 year career, he has been privileged to have been awarded 20 Excellence in Teaching Awards and 3 Department of Pathology Summit Awards for Teaching Excellence. He is listed in Best Doctors of America and received the Pathologist of the Year Award from his department in 2016.
Looking back at his accomplishments to date, Dr. Lucia is proud to have published more than 160 peer- reviewed articles and to have been invited as a featured speaker at conferences abroad and throughout the nation. Dr. Lucia is also highly regarded for his time serving as the primary pathologist for the Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial (PCPT) and Vitamin E and Selenium Chemoprevention Trial (SELECT), sponsored by the Southwest Oncology Group, and the Medical Therapy of Prostate Symptoms (MTOPS) trial, sponsored by the NIDDK.
In a continuous effort to broaden his knowledge, Dr. Lucia is a member of several professional associations including the AUA, ISUP, AMA and AACR. Dr. Lucia also commits his time to research as Director of Prostate Diagnostic Laboratory and the UCAMC Biorepository Facility.
Looking to the future Dr.Lucia plans to continue his efforts in researching, teaching, and publishing with long term aspirations to continue to foster excellence in cancer diagnostics and resident education.
