Dr. Michael Drew has been appointed onto the Board of Physicians in recognition of his outstanding dedication and contribution to the specialist field of Orthopedics. Drawing on over the 50 years of service to the healthcare sector, he has gained an exceptional amount of experience and is held in extremely high regard.
Before beginning his career, Dr. Drew studied for his BS at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, graduating in 1959. He then went onto gain his MD from Columbia Medical School – College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he graduated in 1967. Following on from this, he obtained a Residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, between 1967 – 1969, completed the Harvard Combined Orthopedic Residency Program, between 1969 – 1972, a further Residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in 1972, followed by a Fellowship at Kantospital, in 1973.
Having a long line of physicians in his family and his father working an established engineer, originally Dr. Drew was torn between the two careers, but decided to follow in his father’s footsteps into engineering. However, shortly after, he realized this was not the right path for him and decided to pursue his passion for medicine instead, a decision also influenced by his grandfather.
Dr. Drew is currently an Orthopedic Surgeon and Professor working at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Brigham Health is a global leader, devoted to maintaining and restoring health for people everywhere, specializing in women’s care. Brigham Health is composed of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, and Brigham and Women’s Physicians Organization. As an Orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Drew diagnoses and treats ailments affecting muscles, bones and joints, treating sports injuries, degenerative diseases, tumors, infections, and birth defects. He regularly performs joint repair and replacement operations. Within his role as a Professor, Dr. Drew works with and mentors medical students.
Dr. Drew has had a successful career and attributes his success to his profound interest in what he does every day and for the passion and interest he has in helping his patients. He says they are ‘the driving force behind his satisfaction and achievements’.
To ensure the esteemed doctor remains at the forefront of his sector, Dr. Drew is a member of a variety of professional associations including, Massachusetts Medical Society, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and Vermont Board of Medical Practice. In addition to the hard work he puts in professionally, Dr. Drew is associated with several charitable organizations that he is holds a particular affinity for, including the Cancer Society and the Dana Farber Cancer Treatment Institution.
Looking to the future, Dr. Drew plans to stay on his current path of helping his patients, as well as passing on his knowledge to the next generation of medical professionals.
In his free time Dr. Drew enjoys skiing, sailing, and restoring classic cars.
