In recognition of her outstanding contributions, Ms. Deborah Smyth has been warmly welcomed as “Best in Medicine” by the American Health Council. Ms. Smyth is based in Lawrenceville, New Jersey and has been working the healthcare industry for the past 37 years.
The inspiration to pursue a career in pharmacy came from her grandfather, who was also a pharmacist. In addition, Ms. Smyth has always had an ingrained curiosity for science and a love of assisting those in need. Driven by these values, Ms. Smyth graduated from Duquesne University in 1981, with her BS in Pharmacy.
Currently, Ms. Smyth is the Director of Pharmacy for St. Lawrence Rehab Center and has been proudly serving in this role for the past 3 years. St. Lawrence Rehab Center has been serving the physical rehabilitation needs of patients for more than 40 years. The hospital is proud to house 166 beds and is a fully accredited, non-profit, private hospital for physical rehabilitation. The center caters for both inpatients and outpatients and offers speech therapy, physical and occupational therapy, therapeutic recreation and social and psychological services. In addition, they can also cater for dysphagia therapy, prosthetics and orthotics, brain injury rehab, driver and vestibular rehab and also has a wheelchair seating clinic. The outpatient health center is cutting-edge and includes lounge and splinting area, private exam and treatment rooms, a gym and also an on-site apartment.
The daily responsibilities of Ms. Smyth include overseeing the staff in the pharmacy as well as caring for patients. She also has responsibilities in administration and medicine management, and is widely known for her hard work and dedication.To further her own specialist knowledge, Ms. Smyth is a member of the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists.
Ms. Smyth has also been heavily involved in sport throughout her life and is proud of her achievements in this area. Whilst in high school, Ms. Smyth played soccer, basketball and softball, and was inducted into her high school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Whilst in college, she carried on played basketball and was welcomed into the Trenton Softball Hall of Fame. In addition to her own achievements, Ms. Smyth is incredibly proud of her son. Ms. Smyth credits her successes to her dedicated work ethic and values, which were passed on by her parents and grandparents.
Looking to the future, Ms. Smyth wants to focus on tackling drug diversion and the opioid epidemic. When she is not busy working, Ms. Smyth likes to travel, work out and go walking. This is in addition to her contributions to NAMI- Walking for Charitable Organizations.
