Nancy H. Heideman

PharmD

Dr. Nancy Heideman, PharmD has been warmly welcomed as “Best in Medicine” by the American Health Council. Dr. Heideman is a Clinical Pharmacy Lead – Oncology based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dr. Heideman has worked in the healthcare industry for the past 29 years, with the past 3 months spent in her current role at the University of New Mexico Hospital, where she works in the Comprehensive Cancer Center.

A role in pharmacy appealed to Dr. Heideman because the occupation allowed her to impact a wide variety of areas through her work. Therefore, she pursued her doctorate in Pharmacy, which she gained from the University of Tennessee in 1989. In addition she is a BCPS and a BCOP. Her education and her professional experience has allowed her to refine her expertise in Oncology Pharmacy.

University of New Mexico Hospital and the UNM Health System houses the only Level I trauma center in the state. Similarly, there is also the only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center. The UNM Health System also comprises of both a well equipped stroke and neuro- trauma service and burn center. The system caters for all people including a pediatric cardiothoracic surgery program, advanced women’s care, as well as adult and children’s psychiatric services, so that the center can provide support to everyone. Furthermore, expert bariatric and orthopedic programs are provided alongside a wide variety of other speciality programs. The system comprises a Children’s Hospital, Neurosciences Center, Cancer Center and Psychiatric Center.

The expertise of Dr. Heideman is evident when her previous experience is considered, as she spent 10 years working at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and previously worked at UNM Children’s Hospital. In addition to her role at the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center, she serves as the PGY-2 Oncology Resident Director. Furthermore, she is also an integral part of the Medical Oncology sub-committee. One of her main responsibilities is to provide expert guidance for others in healthcare, in drug management specifically.

To pass on her expert knowledge and continue her learning, Dr. Heideman is a part of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, the Hematology/ Oncology Pharmacy Association and the Children’s Oncology Group. She is also part of the Board of Pharmacy Specialties and will be delivering a lecture at the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy. Dr. Heideman credits her success to her desire to stay ahead of the curve and always remain up-to-date with the latest developments in her field.

Looking to the future, Dr. Heideman wants to continue widening her reach and knowledge by expanding into HOPA.

When not busy working, Dr. Heideman enjoys running, cooking and biking. She is also extremely charitable and in order to give back to her community, provides meals to a shelter every other month.

  • At the UNM Health System patients find the state’s only Level I trauma center, only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center, a comprehensive stroke and neuro-trauma service, a comprehensive burn center, a pediatric cardiothoracic surgery program, advanced women’s care, adult and children’s psychiatric services, bariatric and orthopedic programs, and dozens of other specialty lines that they are uniquely equipped to deliver.
