Nathan Markwart

The American Health Council has proudly welcomed Dr. Nathan Markwart as “Best in Medicine,” in recognition of his nine years spent within the intensive care field.

Dr. Markwart has always appreciated the intensity of the ICU. It was this interest that inspired him to pursue a career as an Intensivist, and he considers it a privilege to treat each and every one of his patients. Dr. Markwart studied Osteopathic Medicine at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, receiving his DO certification in 2008.

Today, Dr. Markwart is an Intensivist with the Pulmonary and Sleep Association of South Florida, a group of experienced and highly qualified Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine physicians. Together, they provide comprehensive, sophisticated diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the lungs in all hospitals across Miami-Dade County, alongside additional hospitals in Broward and Monroe counties. Pulmonary Physicians of South Florida has two certified sleep laboratories that diagnose and treat sleep disorders, as well as a PET-CT diagnostic center for detailed evaluation of known lung disorders or early detection of lung disease.

Dr. Markwart holds extensive expertise in critical care and internal medicine. His day to day responsibilities as an Intensivist include oversight of the ICU Department. Dr. Markwart attributes his success to his parents for giving him the best start possible in his career, as they fully supported his desire to pursue medicine.

Dr. Markwart is honored to have lectured to residents from Florida Atlantic University and is also writing a Critical Care book for his residents. He is a member of a number of professional associations, including The American College of Physicians, The American College of Chest Physicians, The Critical Care Medicine Association, The American Osteopathic Association, and The Florida Osteopathic Association.

Over the next five years, Dr. Markwart plans to continue in his current intensivist role. In his spare time, Dr. Markwart enjoys playing hockey, painting, and spending time with his family. He also provides Medical Student Education, as well as Resident Student Education.
