Ray Compton

The American Health Council has cordially appointed Dr. Ray Compton as “Best in Medicine,” in honor of his dedicated service as a surgeon and the substantial expertise he gained within the field.

Dr. Compton studied General Surgery, Surgical Critical Care at the University of Memphis, where he received his MD in 1991. He is also Board Certified in General Surgery, previously Board Certified in Surgical Critical Care and previously Board Certified in Nutrition Support.
For the past 16 years, Dr. Compton has been employed as a Surgeon at Paris Surgical Specialists. The organization was established to ensure that patients no longer need to choose between Modern Medicine and Classic Caring. All of the surgeons are Board Certified by The American Board of Surgery, but each member has additional surgical training beyond board certification. Paris Surgical Specialists also offers extensive training and/or certification in the fields of Cosmetic & Reconstructive Surgery, Critical Care, Vascular Surgery, and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery.

Dr. Compton’s day to day duties include patient care and surgery. He has extensive expertise in the general surgical care of benign and malignant breast disease, thyroid disease, gastrointestinal surgery and endoscopy (upper endoscopy and colonoscopy). He also has expertise in minimally invasive gallbladder surgery, as well as similar techniques for colon, small bowel, stomach, spleen, and anti-reflux surgery.

Dr. Compton attributes his success to treating all of his patients like they are a part of his family. He is a member of a number of professional associations, including being a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Past President of the Tennessee Chapter, and Governor for Tennessee to the American College of Surgeons. Over the next five years, Dr. Compton would like to continue practicing despite government interactions.

Among his many achievements, Dr. Compton is most proud to be married to his wife of 26 years, and he greatly looks forward to the next 26. When not at work, he enjoys coaching gymnastics, trampoline and tumbling. He also serves as a church organist.
