Stuart L. Kaplan

The American Health Council has warmly welcomed Dr. Stuart Kaplan as “Best in Medicine.” Working in the healthcare industry for over 50 years, Dr. Kaplan is an expert in the field of child psychiatry and continues to share and expand his knowledge throughout the healthcare sector.

Dr. Kaplan attended George Washington University – School of Medicine where he completed his Medical Doctorate degree in 1965. Following this, he went on to complete a residency at the University of Pennsylvania and also completed a residency in child psychiatry at the University of Michigan.

When first starting out, Dr. Kaplan realized how exciting and ever-changing field of psychiatry was. This interest in the field paired with his personal experience with mental health made psychiatry the perfect field for him to specialize in. Throughout his career, Dr. Kaplan has found his work a challenge, however he has been able to make valuable impact on his patients and within the industry.

Dr. Kaplan has been working in his current role as a Psychiatrist on Staff at Halcombe Behavioral Health for the past five years. He also fulfills the role as Professor of Psychiatry at Penn State University. Holcomb Behavioral Health Systems is a leader in providing services and supports for people with mental health, substance abuse, and developmental disabilities. The Delaware County Holcomb Prevention department is located in Media, PA.
Holcomb has been providing evidence-based prevention programs for youth and parents in Delaware County since 1997. Whereas, Penn State University provides clinical and educational opportunities to students wanting to pursue a career in psychiatry.

Throughout his working day, the esteemed doctor completes a number of tasks and has a variety of responsibilities. He teaches daily at Penn State University as well as working with patients by diagnosing and treating them.

Having worked in the industry for 53 years, Dr. Kaplan has enjoyed numerous successes. He received much acclaim for his book, “Your Child Does Not Have Bipolar Disorder” and for his article, “Mama, Am I Really Bipolar”. He has also worked in academic institutions, in state and private hospitals, and for non- profits. Through investigation and clinical research, Dr. Kaplan has published nearly forty papers on child psychology. In addition to these academic achievements, Dr. Kaplan was honored to be rewarded with the title of Missouri Mental Health Professional of the Year and served as a member of the United State Navy for two years as a Child Psychiatrist.

In order to share and expand his knowledge as well as keep up to date with relevant news, Dr. Kaplan is a member of numerous professional organizations. These include the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychology and is on the Governor’s Advisory Committee of Pennsylvania.

Looking into the future, Dr. Kaplan plans to continue publishing his findings in order to bring Greater awareness to his book and article. Additionally, he will be restarting his successful blog on Psychology Today.

In his free time, Dr. Kaplan enjoys sailing and skiing.
