The American Health Council has cordially appointed Dr. Thomas Chen, MD, PhD, as “Best in Medicine.” With over two decades of experience, Dr. Chen, from La Canada, California, is a highly regarded Professor with expertise in Neurosurgery, Spinal Cancer, Brain Tumors, and Medicine.
Dr. Chen first became involved in his profession because he has always wanted to make a difference in the lives of others. He studied at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) for his MD, achieving this in 1988. He then went on to finish his residency in neurosurgery from the University of Southern California (USC) in 1995. During his residency, he also finished and started a PhD in tumor immunology from the University of Southern California in 1996. He finished his fellowship in spinal surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsion in 1997.
Currently, Dr. Chen upholds the prestigious position of Professor at the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California, where his day-to-day responsibilities include performing brain and spine surgeries. Dr. Chen teaches residents neurosurgery, and is currently working on new treatments for brain cancers.

Having achieved many accolades including the title of ‘Top Doctor’, Dr. Chen is proud to have held one of the few fellowships that trained spine surgeons, focused specifically on spine cancer. He has also seen his work published widely, gaining him much respect from the industry for his knowledge.
Keen to remain at the forefront of his profession, Dr. Chen is an active member of The North America Spine Society, The Congress of Neurological Surgeons and The American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
Over the next 5 years Dr. Chen would like to come up with new ways to perform neurosurgery procedures and to continue precepting. When not busy working, Dr. Chen enjoys traveling.
