The American Health Council has cordially invited Dr. William McGee as “Best in Medicine.” Having dedicated over 36 years to working within the healthcare industry, Dr. McGee has been recognized for his accomplishments in his role of Professor of Medicine at University of Massachusetts Medical School – Baystate.

Dr. McGee first became involved in his profession due to his desire to help people and the enjoyment he found from the field of medicine. Focusing his studies in critical care medicine alongside hospice and palliative care medicine, Dr. McGee began his academic endeavors at Dartmouth College receiving his BA in 1979. Following on from this, Dr. McGee achieved his MD from New York Medical College in 1983 and later in his career attained his MHA, graduating from Clark University in 1997.

In respect of his extensive educational background, Dr. McGee earned the opportunity to complete extensive training. Recognized as FCCM, FNCS and FCCP certified, the esteemed doctor completed his Internship and Residency within Baystate Medical Center – Tufts University, and his Fellowship at the St Johns Mercy Medical Center.

Among his many achievements, Dr. McGee spent over 30 years in the prestigious role of President at Baystate Medical Center. Displaying expertise in patient safety and education, Dr. McGee’s daily responsibilities included direct patient care and the training of students, residents and fellows in the field of Critical Care. Subsequently in 2019, Dr. McGee was appointed by the university to take on the academic appointment of Professor of Medicine in the Departments of Medicine, Surgery and Anesthesiology in addition to taking on the position of Adjunct Professor.

Looking back at his successful career to date, Dr. McGee attributes his achievements to his hard work and dedication. Dr. McGee is also a highly acclaimed author, having written/contributed to more than 150 publications and has been invited to events as a featured speaker.
Dr. McGee is also highly regarded in the medical industry for his work improving the safety of vascular access for patients worldwide, developing hemodynamic algorithms that have saved countless lives in and out of the operating room and developing protocols that enhance the process and yield of organ procurement from donors.

Dr. McGee is also proud of his accomplishments popularizing a copyrighted algorithm which addresses vexing routine clinical questions regarding therapy for shock; acute lung injury and kidney dysfunction in the ICU.

Throughout his esteemed career, Dr. McGee holds his achievement of becoming American Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Hospice/ Palliative Medicine, and Critical Care in high esteem as well as being awarded multiple teaching and research awards

In a continuous effort to broaden his knowledge, Dr. McGee maintains membership with the following professional associations: the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Care and the American College of Chest Physicians.

Looking to the future Dr. McGee aims to provide more emphasis on consultation within the industry with a desire to shift into a more formal line of work within Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

In his time outside of work, Dr. McGee enjoys keeping active by regularly partaking in backpacking and climbing whilst also aspiring to travel, where the fun fact that he is fluent in Italian might be of use.
